Werewolves love and hate the moon. She gives them freedom on their Night, but rules their lives, even when it’s not the Night. She can be a cruel mistress. She gives them amazing strength and magical abilities (like rapidly healing), but tugs at them all the time. They are never NOT paying attention to the moon.

The night of the full moon and the transformation is important to werewolves. Caleb calls it the Night, while the Hellhounds call it the Howling. Since werewolves are dispersed, esp. in the US, each pack might have its own name for the night of the full moon. What do the werewolves call the transformation? The Big Shiver? The Wolfquake?

Werewolves are not comfortable saying “moon”, the name of their mistress. Hence, there are euphemisms (see the Romanian werewolves’ lingo; for example, for the love of Selene, Sweet Selene, Hyperion’s Daughter). The Hellhounds call the moon the Old Lady or, sometimes, Cindy Lou. (Cynthia was originally an epithet of the Greek goddess Artemis, who according to legend was born on Mount Cynthus.) Artemis is also sometimes associated with the moon. Caleb might be a bit more poetic and use the Huntress (for Artemis) or the Cruel Huntress. Of course, Caleb didn’t grow up with the taboo of not saying “moon”; when talking to humans, he’d use the word “moon”. He would adopt the taboo around other werewolves, though, because it’s frowned upon to use the word. The Hellhounds wouldn’t use the word, unless in some serious swearing, that is, taking the name of the moon in vain. For example: putrid rotting moon, stinking moon, bleeding moon.

Werewolves insult each other by smell, too, or by perceived weakness. Thus, some of the Romanian insults (which would work well for the Hellhounds, too): toothless mutt, mangy mutt, stinking dog. Werewolves have keen noses and hearing; their eyesight is not so great. Thus, some werewolf insults are based around: rotting, putrefaction, poison, festering, spoiled, smelly, stinking, reeking, putrid, foul, rancid. Rabid dog or mad dog works as an insult. When werewolves get into insulting one another, biting, tearing of flesh, etc. also figures in: “bite me”, “I’ll rip you up one side and down the other”.
Familiar address: “dog” works for werewolves on friendly terms with one another (like saying “man”). Other words for dog: hound, whelp, cur, mong, mutt, doggy.

How do werewolves describe vampires? Werewolves perceive smells somewhat like colors. They smell fear or aggression or deference. In any scene, the werewolves will pick up smell-clues. Thus, when they talk about vampires, they would use epithets like stinking corpses, rotting corpses, dead meat.
